Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a Director of Corporate FP&A to lead strategic financial planning and analysis as the company transitions from fusion research to commercial manufacturing. Reporting to the VP FP&A, you will oversee corporate planning cycles, enterprise financial risk management, and strategic decision support for executive leadership and the Board.
Key responsibilities include:
**Planning & Governance**: Oversee corporate planning cycles and establish financial planning standards, timelines, and governance. Maintain the enterprise financial risk register, tracking key risks and material exposures. Evaluate and continuously improve planning and reporting processes.
**Strategic Planning & Decision Support**: Lead Executive Committee and Board reporting packages, distilling complex analysis into clear narratives and recommendations. Own enterprise cash forecasting to provide visibility into liquidity, working capital, and cash flow. Support capital allocation evaluations, target setting, financial modeling, and scenario analysis.
**Team Leadership & Transformation**: Oversee a shared pool of financial analysts supporting the broader finance team. Serve as financial advisor to G&A and R&D leadership on capital allocation and business cases. Partner with Accounting and Investor Relations on financial results narratives. Collaborate on financial planning tools, reporting integrations, and Global Finance transformation initiatives including AI adoption and process improvements.
This is a critical role as CFS scales from proving fusion technology to manufacturing it at scale, requiring someone who can build operations-finance leadership that supports scalability and economic viability.
**Requirements:**
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field (MBA, CPA, or CFA preferred)
- 15+ years of progressive finance experience with significant time in corporate FP&A, strategic finance, or comparable function
- Demonstrated executive-level communication and storytelling skills for preparing materials for Company leadership and Boards
- Advanced financial modeling and scenario analysis expertise; deep command of enterprise planning processes
- Ability to perform activities such as typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
- Ability to work in a facility with industrial hazards including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics
**Bonus qualifications:**
- Familiarity with modern FP&A tooling and interest in applying AI and automation to finance workflows
- Experience supporting a high-growth company
