Pathos is an AI-driven biotech company reimagining drug development. The company builds foundation models and AI systems paired with deep oncology expertise and 200+ petabytes of multimodal patient data to improve clinical trial design, patient selection, and biomarker strategy. Rather than operating as a traditional biotech with hierarchical layers, Pathos organizes around small teams of 2–4 subject matter experts who command hundreds of AI agents to execute work at scale.
We seek a Director of Chemistry, Manufacturing, and Controls (CMC) for small molecule programs. This role leads the chemistry strategy, manufacturing scale-up, and regulatory controls framework for small molecule assets in development. You will own the technical direction of CMC activities, from synthetic route optimization and process development through manufacturing scale-up and regulatory submission strategy.
As a Director, you will work within Pathos's flat, operator-driven structure. You are expected to be a deep expert who specifies what needs to happen, orchestrates AI agents and cross-functional teams to execute, and makes high-judgment calls on chemistry and manufacturing strategy. You will partner closely with clinical, regulatory, and AI teams to ensure CMC decisions align with trial timelines and patient outcomes. The role demands someone comfortable shipping outcomes in hours rather than weeks, leveraging AI tools to accelerate traditional chemistry workflows.
You should have 10+ years of pharmaceutical or biotech CMC experience, with demonstrated expertise in small molecule synthesis, process chemistry, and manufacturing scale-up. Prior experience leading CMC functions or managing chemistry teams is expected. Comfort with AI-augmented workflows and a bias toward speed and iteration are essential.
