Buildkite is a CI/CD platform trusted by leading engineering teams including Canva, Meta, Mistral AI, and NVIDIA. This DevOps Support Engineer role is a hybrid between reactive customer support and proactive systems work. You'll spend roughly half your time independently troubleshooting and resolving complex CI/CD, software, and infrastructure issues for enterprise customers, collaborating directly with engineering teams at companies like Uber and Airbnb. The other half involves designing and implementing scalable tools, processes, and open-source contributions that prevent future issues and improve customer experience.
Key responsibilities include: independently resolving highly technical CI/CD and infrastructure problems; providing support via Slack, Zoom, email, and community forums; leading customer-facing retrospectives and planning sessions; contributing to and maintaining open-source tools (Bash plugins, Golang utilities); publishing documentation and proactive communications; acting as a voice for customers to shape product improvements; owning and improving support workflows; sharing learnings with Product and Engineering teams; and mentoring peers.
You'll need strong technical expertise in Bash, Ruby on Rails, or Golang; solid DevOps and cloud knowledge (Linux, AWS, GCP, Azure, Terraform, Kubernetes); excellent problem-solving and communication skills; and a customer-centric mindset. The role requires autonomy, proactivity, and the ability to work independently in a distributed environment. You must be located in the UK, Ireland, or Poland and work 9 AM–5 PM local time five days per week (including weekends on a rotating schedule), with three flexible days per week.
