Vuori, an athletic apparel brand blending performance with casual aesthetics, is seeking a Design Manager for Greater China to lead retail store design initiatives across the region. You will report to the Sr. Manager of GC Store Development and partner closely with the Global Brand Environment team to translate Vuori's global design vision into distinctive, locally-contextualized retail spaces.
In this role, you will develop store design concepts that balance brand identity with local market needs, collaborating with cross-functional teams including Visual Merchandising, IT, Security, and Retail Operations. Key responsibilities include: creating comprehensive store layouts (sales areas, fitting rooms, back-of-house spaces, facades, and architectural details); preparing design presentations with plans, renderings, and material selections; reviewing local consultants' drawings for brand alignment; coordinating design approvals with Global Brand Environment; conducting site visits to verify construction quality; and resolving design issues that arise during build-out.
You will serve as the critical interface between Global Brand Environment, local consultants, vendors, and the Greater China team, ensuring design intent is preserved while accommodating local regulatory, operational, and commercial requirements. You'll track project milestones, escalate risks and delays, and maintain design standards and documentation across all projects.
This is a hands-on leadership role requiring both strategic vision and tactical execution—balancing brand integrity with pragmatic decision-making on cost, schedule, and scope implications.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Interior Design, Architectural Engineering, or Construction Management
- Minimum 5+ years of retail store design, project architecture, or design management experience
- At least 3–5 years managing or leading a design team (internal or external)
- Proven track record with multinational retail brands and design-build contractors; premium/lifestyle retail experience highly preferred
- Expert proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (review, redline, approve); proficiency in SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and Bluebeam
- Deep, practical knowledge of Chinese building codes, fire safety regulations, and municipal permitting processes
- Strong understanding of local construction methodologies, material supply chains, and cost structures
- Fluent in Mandarin and English (written and spoken)
- Leadership capability to guide and direct teams without micromanaging; ability to set clear expectations and hold people accountable
- Confidence to make on-site design decisions that protect brand integrity while keeping projects moving
- Commercial awareness of how design impacts budgets, timelines, and store profitability
- Proven ability to manage contractor and consultant relationships with authority and respect
