Salary: USD 220,000 - 292,000 / annual
Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Deputy Director of Flight Operations to lead developmental test operations for advanced unmanned aerial systems (UAS). This role oversees the integration, planning, and execution of flight tests for medium and large conventional and VTOL UAS vehicles, working closely with program leadership and cross-functional teams.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing flight operation strategies aligned with company directives, overseeing test planning and execution, collaborating with test engineers and control room personnel on test event preparation and reporting, and navigating complex product development roadmaps. You will facilitate engineering reviews, manage technical discussions with customer representatives, provide oversight for critical documentation including system manuals and checklists, and coordinate project status with program leadership while managing resource constraints.
The role requires ensuring regulatory compliance with applicable laws and regulations during flight operations, supporting hardware and software testing with emphasis on resource planning and process improvement, and managing and mentoring flight operations staff including pilots, crew, and support personnel.
Required qualifications include 10+ years of experience in flight operations and/or test management for developmental aircraft and payload integration, experience with large UAS development, knowledge of DCMA INST 8210, MIL-STD-516, 14 CFR and related test and evaluation documents, strong understanding of engineering concepts with broad technical application, ability to quickly understand and apply new concepts, experience working with the Department of War, proven leadership and team management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, and the ability to work under pressure with multiple priorities. Must possess and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
Preferred qualifications include 15+ years in flight operations and high-risk flight testing, 10+ years of Pilot-In-Command experience with large manned or unmanned aircraft, involvement in first flight of developmental aircraft, proactive problem-solving mindset, and previous experience in a Combined Test Force or equivalent organization.
