Thatch is transforming health benefits by enabling companies to offer employees real healthcare budgets instead of one-size-fits-all plans. The company solves complex problems across healthcare, payments, and technology to give employees choice and control while providing employers predictable costs. You will join as a Data Scientist embedded with Product and Operations teams. This is a hands-on individual contributor role focused on building the analytical foundation that drives product decisions. You'll own data models and metrics across the entire user journey—from plan shopping and enrollment through reimbursements and daily benefit usage. Key responsibilities include: - Partner with Product and Operations to answer strategic questions and inform product priorities - Define and own product metrics, from company-wide success measures to feature-level performance indicators - Analyze user journeys, engagement, and operational data to identify friction points and opportunities - Design and evaluate experiments to measure the impact of product changes - Build and maintain dbt models, metrics, dashboards, and analytical tools that cross-functional teams rely on daily - Improve data quality, instrumentation, and self-serve analytics capabilities so teams can make confident decisions independently You'll work with a modern data stack: Snowflake and SQL for data warehousing, dbt for transformation, Omni and Hex for analytics and visualization, and Python for statistical analysis and modeling. The team uses GitHub, CI/CD practices, and AI tools (Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot) to work efficiently. This role is ideal if you enjoy turning complex data into clear, actionable recommendations and have strong product judgment. You'll navigate ambiguity, work independently, and partner across engineering, product, and operations teams. REQUIREMENTS: - Experience using analytics, data science, and experimentation to influence product decisions - Strong SQL skills and hands-on experience with dbt or similar data transformation tools - Proven ability to build analytical data models and dashboards using BI or visualization tools - Proficiency in Python for analysis, experimentation, or statistical modeling - Strong product judgment and ability to translate complex findings into clear, actionable recommendations - Comfortable working independently, navigating ambiguity, and collaborating across teams EXPERIENCE THAT STANDS OUT: - Influencing product roadmaps and prioritization through data-driven insights - Building experimentation practices, including guardrail metrics, sample-size guidance, or analysis frameworks - Analyzing funnels, retention, cohorts, or engagement across complex user journeys - Building statistical or machine-learning models for segmentation, forecasting, propensity, or recommendations - Background in healthcare, fintech, or other regulated industries Familiarity with source data and event instrumentation from systems like Ruby on Rails is helpful but not required.
