Newton Research is a well-funded software start-up founded by repeat entrepreneurs and backed by blue-chip venture capital. The company is building the next generation of closed-loop media lifecycle solutions, developing AI agents that leverage large language models and generative AI with specialized domain knowledge. The products generate actionable business insights for customers and partners across media planning, buying, and measurement.
You will join a small, high-impact data science team working from the Needham, MA office. Your primary responsibilities include developing production-level models and algorithms for media planning, audience targeting, measurement, and yield optimization problems. You will design and interpret experiments, determining what results do and do not support. A key aspect of the role is collaborating with engineering to encode your analytical judgment into Newton's AI agents, and contributing to evaluation frameworks and benchmarks that verify whether an agent's analysis is correct, not merely plausible.
The role values self-motivated individuals who collaborate across teams and can present and defend findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Your work reaches customers quickly, and your judgment directly shapes the product direction.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Master's or PhD in a quantitative field (Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Computer Science, or related discipline)
- Strong foundation in data analysis, statistical modeling, causal inference, and machine learning concepts
- Ability to evaluate models, causal experiments, and AI-generated analyses; identify what they measure, where they fail, and how to verify them
- Proficiency in Python, including data science libraries (pandas, scikit-learn)
- Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases
- Ability to clearly explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Plus: experience shipping production code or working with cloud data platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, Redshift)
