Salary: USD 165,000 - 270,000 / annual
Drata is a fast-growing B2B SaaS company (600+ employees, founded 2020) building an agentic AI platform for continuous compliance automation, risk management, and trust verification. The company is scaling toward unicorn status and seeking a Staff Data Engineer to lead the data engineering vision and strategy.
In this role, you will be a key member of the growing data team, responsible for building a world-class data department that enables self-service analytics and data products across the organization. You'll work alongside Data Engineers, Software Engineers, Analytics Engineers, Data Analysts, and Data Scientists to ensure all teams can easily access and leverage data to drive decisions and power ML/AI models.
Key responsibilities include:
- Automating data workflows and processes (automation is a core company value)
- Building data products that serve analytics, product engineering, and ML/AI model needs
- Optimizing query performance, data ingestion, and processing time
- Contributing to the data modeling layer and building strong data governance processes
- Creating data engineering training and documentation to enable analysts to work independently
- Interviewing, hiring, and training future data engineers
- Administrating data orchestration using modern tools and concepts (ETL, ELT, Reverse ETL)
- Working at the edge of AI and security to solve novel compliance and trust problems

Requirements:
- 8+ years of experience as a Data Engineer
- Experience with Change Data Capture (CDC)
- Fluent in analytical SQL; ability to write complex queries and understand the difference between functional and performant SQL
- Fluent in Python
- Experience with data platforms such as Stitch, Fivetran, Snowflake, dbt, Airflow, Airbyte, Looker, Mode, Sigma, Hightouch, or Census
- Strong communication skills; ability to explain complex data flows, datasets, and queries to non-technical stakeholders
- Experience building AI/ML solutions to production
- Bonus: experience building ML/AI pipelines
- Natural curiosity and investigative mindset
