Melio (a Xero company) is seeking a Data Engineer to design, develop, and optimize scalable data analytics pipelines and infrastructure. You will collaborate with data analysts, data scientists, product engineers, and product managers to deliver impactful data solutions that empower business insights and decision-making.
The role involves leading the design and development of robust ETL processes handling diverse structured and unstructured data sources, architecting and maintaining infrastructure for ingesting and processing data in the analytics warehouse, and developing analytics-oriented data models to support strategic decision-making. You will champion data quality, consistency, and governance across the analytics layer, troubleshoot data issues, and mentor team members.
Melio's data platform is built on Snowflake as the analytics warehouse with Airflow orchestrating SQL and Python pipelines. Data is ingested through Fivetran and S3-based Snowpipe, infrastructure is managed as code with Terraform on AWS, and data quality is monitored with Monte Carlo and Snowflake native tools. The team uses Claude AI to speed up development, validation, and on-call triage.
Your day-to-day work includes designing and implementing scalable data pipelines for analytical workloads, collaborating with stakeholders on requirements and data strategies, writing and optimizing ETL processes for new data sources, designing analytics-focused data models, troubleshooting data issues, and sharing knowledge with team members.
Melio processes over $100B in annual payments for small businesses and is integrating its payment platform with Xero's accounting software to create a unified financial ecosystem. This is an opportunity to make significant impact enabling data-driven decision-making at scale in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
