Anthropic is seeking a Data Center Energy Lead based in the EU to secure power capacity and accelerate energy delivery for its rapidly expanding AI compute footprint across multiple European jurisdictions. This is a strategic, multi-country role covering several EU markets from a single EU base.
You will lead multi-hundred megawatt power procurement efforts and build strategic relationships with Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Distribution System Operators (DSOs), national regulators, and ACER across Europe. Your responsibilities include developing creative energy deployment strategies (grid-connected, behind-the-meter solutions) that prioritize speed to energization while maintaining social license. You will own energy procurement and markets strategy, securing power capacity through EU wholesale electricity markets and national capacity mechanisms, and structuring utility partnerships and commercial agreements.
Key responsibilities span utility and regulatory stakeholder management across multiple European jurisdictions, accelerating connection timelines and unlocking constrained capacity. You will drive energy markets and policy strategy for AI compute facilities, monitoring EU and national grid codes, regulatory developments, and engaging policymakers to address grid capacity challenges. You'll partner with engineering and delivery teams to translate energy market dynamics into actionable capacity acceleration strategies aligned with aggressive project timelines.
You will develop deep market intelligence on regional power availability, transmission constraints, and connection queue dynamics to inform site selection and deployment strategy. Additionally, you will structure innovative commercial frameworks—including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), network use of system arrangements, and behind-the-meter solutions—that enable faster power delivery and mitigate grid capacity risks across Anthropic's European data center portfolio.
Ideal candidates have 15+ years in energy procurement, utility development, or power markets for large-scale infrastructure projects with substantial European exposure. Deep expertise in EU electricity markets (day-ahead, intraday, balancing), national capacity mechanisms, network connection processes, and transmission system planning is essential. Experience securing 100+ MW of power capacity and navigating complex network connection agreements, PPAs, and offtake structures in Europe is required. Strong analytical skills in energy market dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and grid constraints are critical, along with excellent stakeholder management and communication abilities.
