AST SpaceMobile is building a global cellular broadband network in space to operate with standard mobile devices. The company serves both commercial and government applications, with a mission to eliminate connectivity gaps for billions of unconnected users. The Data Analyst – Power BI will join the Enterprise Applications Data Team, owning the design, development, security, and documentation of Power BI reporting across manufacturing, HR, and leadership functions. This role is central to transforming data from Tulip MES, NetSuite ERP, Rippling, SharePoint, and the enterprise data lake into trusted, governed dashboards that drive operational and executive decision-making. Key responsibilities include: - Design, build, publish, and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models across multiple workspaces (AST & Science Global, AST Leadership, Midland HR, Midland Manufacturing). - Partner with business owners to gather requirements, define KPIs and metric definitions, and validate data accuracy before production deployment. - Build dimensional (star-schema) data models, DAX measures, and Power Query transformations; write optimized SQL queries that extract only required data. - Source and integrate data from multiple enterprise systems, consuming curated medallion-architecture layers and collaborating with data engineering teams. - Work with MES and architecture teams to define reporting data points for manufacturing KPIs (work-order progress, step durations, cycle time, efficiency). - Implement Row-Level and Object-Level Security (RLS/OLS) based on ISA-95 scope blocks using Microsoft Entra ID security groups. - Configure data connections with approved service accounts or service principals, manage gateways, and schedule refreshes to eliminate individual user account dependencies. - Apply Power BI workspace governance: admin groups, role-based access, App-based distribution, and Contributor enablement for self-service analytics. - Produce and maintain comprehensive documentation (Architecture Overview, Data Source Details, SOP, Access & Security, Issue Log) for every report. - Diagnose and resolve refresh failures, credential issues, and data-quality problems; perform root-cause analysis via Enterprise Applications Jira. - Optimize report and model performance through incremental refresh, query folding, and model size reduction. - Train and support business users and Contributors on Power BI usage, standards, and self-service best practices. - Support ad-hoc analysis and executive reporting requests for operations, manufacturing, HR, and leadership stakeholders. The role requires on-site presence in Midland, TX, including occasional time on the manufacturing floor to understand processes and validate data. Occasional travel between AST sites may be required. **Requirements:** - Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Statistics, Industrial Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Minimum 5 years of experience as a Data Analyst, BI Developer, or similar role, including at least 3 years of hands-on Power BI development in an enterprise environment. - Strong SQL skills (joins, CTEs, window functions, query optimization) against relational databases or data warehouses. - Proven experience with Power BI Desktop and Service: data modeling, DAX, Power Query, workspaces, Apps, gateways, scheduled refresh, and RLS. - Experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and integrating data from multiple enterprise systems (ERP, MES, HRIS, SaaS, files). - Experience defining and tracking operational KPIs and translating business questions into measurable, documented metrics. **Preferred Qualifications:** - Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300); Fabric Data Engineer Associate (DP-700) a plus. - Experience in manufacturing, aerospace, or regulated production environments; familiarity with OEE, yield, throughput, and cycle-time reporting. - Experience with MES and ERP data, especially Tulip and NetSuite. - Experience with cloud data platforms (Azure Data Factory, Data Lake, Azure SQL, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, AWS S3, Glue, Apache Iceberg). - Experience with service principals, Azure AD app registrations, Power BI deployment pipelines, and Git-based version control. - Working knowledge of Python for data preparation, automation, or forecasting. - Exposure to AI-enabled analytics (Copilot in Power BI, anomaly detection, forecasting). **Soft Skills:** - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to data accuracy. - Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences and present findings to executives. - Proven ability to collaborate across Manufacturing, HR, Finance, IT Security, and Enterprise Applications teams. - Documentation discipline — treats documentation as part of the deliverable, not an afterthought. - Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver in a fast-paced environment. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
