Salary: CAD 84,420 - 132,660 / annual
Tailscale is seeking a Customer Support Engineer (Tier 1) to join its distributed support team. The company builds secure networking software based on WireGuard, enabling teams of all sizes to securely interconnect devices and people regardless of location.
In this role, you will be the primary technical resource for resolving configuration and networking issues, managing a high-velocity ticket queue while maintaining strong response and resolution time targets. You'll drive positive user outcomes by providing clear, empathetic technical guidance and maintaining high customer satisfaction scores. The position requires balancing high-volume daily ticket replies with the technical depth needed to troubleshoot complex networking problems.
Key responsibilities include acting as the first-line technical resource for less complex issues, managing ticket queues with consistent focus on SLA targets, maintaining high CSAT scores through clear communication, and partnering cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to identify and advocate for improvements to user experience based on recurring friction points.
You should demonstrate a natural curiosity about how systems work, evidenced through personal projects, homelabs, or open-source contributions. Required skills include foundational networking knowledge (DNS, IP addressing, firewalls, routing), proficiency troubleshooting across macOS, Windows, Linux, and mobile operating systems, familiarity with Jira and Slack, and excellent written communication abilities. A proactive approach to learning new technologies and staying current with evolving infrastructure tools is essential.
