The Camera Hardware Engineering group at Apple is responsible for designing, developing, and innovating camera hardware across all Apple products. The Camera Electronics and Sensing Group specifically develops custom chipsets to enable world-class imaging and sensing features, including lens stabilization, depth sensing, flicker detection, and eye tracking.
In this role, you will work at the boundary of camera system requirements and vendor implementations, searching for design issues and developing comprehensive validation strategies. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams including mechanical, optical, firmware, product/test, and camera systems engineers to evaluate performance specifications and understand how complex system architectures translate to electrical and IC requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Working at the intersection of camera system requirements and vendor implementations to identify design issues
- Developing and executing validation and debugging plans for camera electrical systems, with subsequent data analysis
- Creating software including scripts, firmware, and models for laboratory data acquisition, control systems, silicon validation, and prototyping
- Designing and debugging circuits and PCBs for validating, characterizing, and prototyping camera hardware chipsets
You will be expected to develop hands-on expertise in electrical validation, troubleshooting, and debugging while contributing to the delivery of best-in-class camera technologies.
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum:
- BS degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
- Minimum 3+ years of relevant industry experience
- Experience validating electro-optical, electro-mechanical, or mixed signal systems with hands-on lab measurements using electrical instrumentation
- Experience with design of experiments or similar processes for troubleshooting/debugging electrical problems
- Scripting experience in Python, C, and/or MATLAB for validation, automation, and analysis of electrical systems
Preferred:
- MS/PhD in Electrical or Computer Engineering and/or additional relevant industry experience
- Low-level programming and debug experience for embedded development (C/C++) on MCU-based systems
- PCB design and debug experience for hardware platforms with drivers, converters, PMUs, or high-speed amplifier ICs
- Circuit design, schematic capture, layout, and component selection experience
- Electrical design, integration, and validation experience with camera and/or optical depth systems
