Commonwealth Fusion Systems is seeking a CSA Project Engineer to support the design and construction of commercially viable fusion power plants. This role bridges engineering and construction, focusing on civil, structural, and architectural (CSA) disciplines.
You will collaborate with engineering teams to address constructability and design issues, review external CSA engineering documentation, and interface with outside engineering firms. Key responsibilities include leading 3D model reviews to identify and resolve constructability and installation issues, planning and sequencing Construction Work Packages, and ensuring construction compliance with engineering documentation.
You will work closely with contractors and field supervision to track progress, manage configuration, and coordinate procurement of field materials. You'll support the RFI/FCR process between Construction and CFS engineering, manage system turnover schedules, develop turnover packages, and facilitate system walkdowns. Additional duties include reviewing inspection records and punch lists for quality and completeness, coordinating cost and progress reporting, and serving as a liaison between Construction and Engineering teams to resolve field problems.
This is a hands-on role in a fast-paced construction environment where you'll support quality programs, manage multiple priorities, and ensure timely delivery of drawings, materials, and equipment. You must be comfortable with occasional travel and working nights/weekends/on-call as needed.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BS in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- Minimum 5 years supporting design, construction, and execution of civil/structural projects or process systems with structural requirements
- Demonstrated understanding of the engineering, design, and construction lifecycle for complex industrial facilities or process systems
- Experience supporting civil, structural, and architectural (CSA) scopes, including structural steel, concrete, foundations, embeds, anchors, equipment supports, and building systems
- Knowledge of codes and standards including IBC, AISC, ACI, and ASCE
- Ability to read and understand engineering documents issued for construction such as P&IDs and isometric drawings
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment
- Physical ability to perform activities such as stooping, climbing, typing, standing, or sitting for extended periods
- Dedication to safety and willingness to work in environments with industrial hazards (heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, lead, high voltage, cryogenics)
- Willingness to travel or work required nights/weekends/on-call occasionally
- Compliance with U.S. Export Control Laws required
