Gusto is seeking a detail-oriented Conversion Operations Associate to manage the transfer of retirement plans from legacy providers onto the Gusto platform. In this role, you will independently handle critical operational tasks including validating asset allocations, reconciling trust data, establishing participant loan records, and ensuring data integrity before plan activation. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing participant-level asset allocations during plan conversions with accurate parsing and validation; reviewing trust reports and legacy provider data to reconcile asset balances prior to system upload; performing ad hoc reconciliation of cash movements and asset balances during and after conversion; setting up and configuring participant loan records with accurate balances and repayment schedules; protecting historical data to support downstream compliance testing and reporting; identifying gaps or inconsistencies in source data and resolving them proactively with client-facing teams; ensuring all required data is collected, validated, and uploaded accurately before plan activation; and collaborating cross-functionally with Client Success, Onboarding, Compliance, and Reconciliations teams. You will also contribute to automation initiatives and tooling enhancements that improve conversion accuracy and efficiency. The role requires strong analytical skills, high attention to detail, and a systems-thinking orientation. You'll work in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment where precision and problem-solving are critical. Required qualifications include 3+ years of experience in retirement plan administration, financial operations, or onboarding-focused operational roles; strong understanding of contribution types (pre-tax, Roth, employer), loan structures, and participant-level retirement data; advanced Excel proficiency including lookup functions, pivot tables, data validation, and error analysis; ability to independently manage competing priorities; adaptability to shifting priorities without compromising quality; quick product mastery to learn new tools and platforms; and strong analytical mindset with high attention to detail. 401(k) experience supporting plan conversions, asset transitions, loans, or trust reconciliation is preferred.
