Nerdio is a Series C SaaS company that simplifies cloud deployment and management for IT professionals using Microsoft technologies. The company serves over 15,000 organizations across 50+ countries with solutions for Azure Virtual Desktop, Windows 365, and Microsoft Intune.
You will serve as Controller, reporting to the VP of Accounting, owning the integrity, timeliness, and scalability of accounting operations. This is a hands-on role combining technical depth with business judgment and a bias for building. The company welcomes both experienced Controllers and standout Assistant Controllers stepping into their first Controller role.
Key responsibilities span four areas:
**Close & Financial Reporting:** Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles while driving continuous reduction in close time. Review account reconciliations, journal entries, and flux analyses to ensure clean, GAAP-compliant financial statements. Prepare and review financial reporting packages for the board, PE sponsor, and lenders, including covenant compliance.
**Technical Accounting:** Apply US GAAP to complex SaaS and usage-based transactions, including ASC 606 (revenue recognition), ASC 340-40 (capitalized commissions), ASC 718 (stock-based compensation), ASC 805 (business combinations), and ASC 842 (leases). Account for revenue across multi-channel business (direct, partner/reseller, marketplace), addressing principal vs. agent, gross vs. net, and channel incentive considerations. Draft and maintain technical accounting memos and policies. Evaluate accounting impact of new contracts, pricing models, and strategic transactions including M&A.
**Audit & Controls:** Lead consolidated US audit as primary liaison to Big 4 auditor; manage PBC lists, timelines, and year-round audit readiness. Own audits at key international entities (UK, Germany). Design, document, and monitor internal controls with SOX-readiness mindset. Coordinate tax compliance with external advisors (sales/use, income, international).
**Global Payroll & Compliance:** Review and ensure compliance for US payroll and international Employer of Record (EOR) services across all countries where Nerdio employs people.
**Requirements:**
- 7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or Senior Accountant role at a SaaS or high-growth company
- Deep expertise in ASC 606 (revenue recognition) and other complex accounting standards
- Experience with multi-entity and international accounting, including foreign currency and local statutory audits
- M&A and purchase accounting experience
- SOX or SOX-readiness experience
- CPA or equivalent accounting credential preferred
- Proficiency with accounting systems and financial reporting tools
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally
