Salary: CAD 70,000 - 90,000 / annual
Altus Group is seeking a Consultant, Cost Planning (Quantity Surveyor) to join their growing team in Toronto. This role offers the opportunity to lead end-to-end contract administration and cost management for complex, high-profile construction projects spanning mixed-use developments, commercial offices, institutions (schools, hospitals), government buildings, and residential developments.
Key responsibilities include providing comprehensive quantity surveying services with emphasis on contracts and procurement; conducting monthly site inspections to assess construction progress and ensure compliance; allocating project costs according to agreed methods; analyzing and determining reasonableness of change orders; reviewing tender packages for scope gaps, quality, and risk; collaborating with internal and external partners on reports; maintaining regular client communication; preparing construction estimates at various design stages; finalizing contract accounts; and managing client relationships to drive renewal, referrals, and service expansion.
You will work closely with clients, project managers, architects, engineers, owners, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met. The role requires strong knowledge of CIQS standard method of measurement, provincial lien acts, and CCDC standard contract conditions.
Ideal candidates hold a degree or diploma in Architecture, Construction, Civil Technology, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or Building Science, with hands-on construction industry expertise in estimating, quantity surveying, contracting, procurement, and scheduling for commercial development projects. Professional accreditation such as PQS, CIQS, or RICS membership is valued. You must demonstrate outstanding communication skills, strong relationship-building abilities across all project levels, results-oriented focus, and appreciation for cross-team collaboration. The role operates on a hybrid basis, balancing office collaboration with remote focused work.
