Altus Group is seeking a Cost Management Advisor (Quantity Surveyor) to join their growing Montreal team. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex, high-profile construction projects across diverse sectors including mixed-use developments, commercial and office buildings, institutional facilities, government and infrastructure projects, and residential developments.
You will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, quantity take-offs, cost plans, budgets, and tender submissions for construction projects. Key responsibilities include developing conceptual, pre-construction, and detailed cost estimates; analyzing plans and specifications to evaluate labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs; soliciting and evaluating subcontractor and supplier bids; identifying cost-related risks and opportunities; tracking budgets and costs throughout project lifecycles; preparing cost plans, cash flow forecasts, project schedules, and budget reports; evaluating change orders and contract variations; participating in value engineering analyses; reviewing and validating contractor and subcontractor payment requests; and collaborating with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients on commercial and contractual issues.
You will work closely with experienced professionals throughout all phases of the project lifecycle, providing strategic cost management advice to support informed decision-making and successful project delivery. You will prepare project cost reports and executive summaries, ensure compliance with company procedures, contractual requirements, and industry standards, and participate in project meetings to address business and contractual issues.
Required qualifications include a bachelor's degree or technical diploma in construction economics, construction management, architecture, civil engineering, building science, or related field. Professional designation or active pursuit of accreditation such as ÉCA, ECCQ, or RICS is required. You must have relevant experience in construction estimation and cost management, excellent knowledge of Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (CIQS) standards for estimate formats, quantity take-off methods, and cost establishment, as well as CCDC standard contract conditions. Strong skills in quantity take-offs and estimation, understanding of construction contracts and procurement processes, analytical and numerical abilities, and proficiency with estimation software (CostX, Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, PlanSwift, or similar) are essential. Advanced Microsoft Office proficiency and fluent written and oral communication in both French and English are required.
