OpenAI is building advanced AI infrastructure across the United States, and this role serves as the primary community bridge for operations in Ohio. The Community Engagement Lead will develop and execute comprehensive engagement strategies with local stakeholders, including government officials, community organizations, NGOs, and residents. This position sits at the intersection of commercial, technical, strategy, and operations—directly supporting OpenAI's infrastructure expansion while building trust-based relationships that integrate community priorities into project development.
Key responsibilities include building and maintaining relationships with diverse local leaders and organizations; developing and executing community engagement strategies for new and existing sites; representing OpenAI in public forums, hearings, and community events; partnering with Economic Development and Environmental leads on incentive compliance, community benefits, and sustainability communications; developing proactive communications to address concerns and reduce opposition risk; monitoring community sentiment to advise executives on risks and opportunities; and creating a scalable community engagement playbook for geographic expansion.
The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of experience in community affairs, public engagement, or corporate communications, with a proven track record engaging diverse stakeholders on large infrastructure or technology projects. Strong public speaking and facilitation skills are essential, as is the ability to manage sensitive political and reputational issues. Experience integrating community benefits (workforce development, education, infrastructure support) into development strategies is required. The role demands collaborative, adaptable professionals comfortable working across government, community, and corporate teams.
