OpenAI's Industrial Compute organization is building the physical infrastructure required to support next-generation frontier AI systems through strategic partnerships and self-built data center campuses. The Commissioning organization ensures this infrastructure is safely tested, validated, integrated, and transitioned into reliable operations.
As Commissioning Program Manager, you will own the development and continuous improvement of commissioning standards, processes, tools, dashboards, and KPIs across OpenAI's growing infrastructure portfolio. You will work closely with commissioning and construction teams to translate field execution needs into practical playbooks, workflows, templates, metrics, and reporting mechanisms that scale from construction readiness through testing and turnover.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain commissioning program standards, playbooks, process maps, templates, checklists, stage gates, and acceptance criteria across infrastructure projects
- Establish consistent workflows for commissioning planning, construction readiness, QA/QC, issue management, document control, testing evidence, turnover, and lessons learned
- Define and maintain commissioning KPIs, dashboards, and scorecards providing visibility into readiness, inspection completion, deficiencies, test progress, data quality, and turnover health
- Own requirements and operating workflows across commissioning trackers, construction management platforms, QA/QC systems, and business intelligence tools
- Partner with commissioning and construction leads to translate field execution needs into practical, scalable processes and tools
- Monitor adoption, data quality, and effectiveness of commissioning standards; identify gaps and drive improvements
- Establish reporting cadences and develop executive-ready reporting on commissioning health, trends, blockers, and risks
- Pilot new standards, processes, metrics, and tools on active projects, incorporate feedback, and scale successful approaches
- Partner with data, analytics, and tooling teams to improve automation, data integrity, and reporting reliability
- Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and incorporating them into future standards and workflows
Required qualifications: 5+ years in program management, project management, construction management, engineering, commissioning, facilities, project controls, or infrastructure delivery. Hands-on experience in construction or complex infrastructure environments. Experience developing program standards, SOPs, process maps, playbooks, templates, or operating rhythms. Strong comfort with data, metrics, dashboards, and reporting. Working knowledge of commissioning, QA/QC, inspections, deficiency management, testing documentation, and turnover processes. Experience with construction and analytics platforms (Procore, Autodesk, CxAlloy, Bluebeam, Smartsheet, Looker, Tableau, Power BI). Strong systems thinking and ability to drive adoption across multidisciplinary stakeholders.
Preferred: Experience building dashboards and KPI frameworks for construction or commissioning. Background in mission-critical infrastructure, data centers, manufacturing, energy, healthcare, or complex technical facilities. PMP, Lean/Six Sigma, CxA, or related credentials.
Role is based in San Francisco office or at OpenAI data center campuses. Periodic travel to project sites expected (less than 20%) to develop understanding of construction workflows and ensure standards reflect field execution needs.
