Pogo is hiring its first in-house Commercial Counsel to build and scale the legal function from the ground up. This is a hands-on role combining commercial contracting expertise with broader legal leadership.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own commercial contracting end-to-end: MSAs, Order Forms, DPAs, NDAs, vendor and partnership agreements
- Negotiate complex enterprise technology and SaaS agreements with Fortune 500 customers
- Partner closely with GTM team to close deals while balancing legal risk, speed, and commercial reality
- Build templates, playbooks, workflows, and automations to scale legal operations
- Provide counsel across privacy, product, data, employment, corporate, insurance, compliance, IP, and disputes
- Represent Pogo confidently in customer negotiations and build trust with legal/procurement teams
- Establish the foundation of Pogo's legal function as the company grows
- Work with fractional and specialist outside counsel as needed, but own problem-solving internally
What Makes This Interesting:
This is a founding legal hire at a seed-stage, high-growth SaaS company. You'll have direct impact on enterprise deals that drive revenue, shape how the legal function operates, and use AI and automation to build a modern, lean legal operation. Unlike a traditional GC role managing outside counsel, you'll be hands-on drafting, redlining, and negotiating. You'll have the opportunity to expand scope substantially as Pogo scales.
Culture Note:
Pogo is transparent about the trade-offs: there's minimal structure yet, you'll wear multiple hats beyond commercial contracting, and you'll need to thrive in ambiguity. The company expects impact-driven hours at seed stage but offers unlimited PTO with a minimum 20-day vacation policy and flexible scheduling.
Requirements:
- 4–8 years of legal experience, ideally combining law firm training with in-house experience at a high-growth technology company
- JD from an accredited law school and active license to practice law in the US
- Significant experience independently negotiating complex enterprise technology, SaaS, and data agreements
- Excellent legal and commercial judgment; ability to communicate complex issues clearly and provide practical recommendations
- Comfortable representing the company in front of customers and negotiating with customer legal/procurement teams
- Thrive with ownership and ambiguity; enjoy building systems and processes
- Excited about using AI and automation in legal operations
- Bonus: experience with privacy/data/product counseling, legal ops and automation, or broader legal matters (employment, corporate, insurance, compliance, IP)
