Orenda develops, builds, owns, and operates battery energy storage systems (BESS) in dense urban environments to support renewable energy integration and grid efficiency. The company is a NYC-based startup building proprietary asset management technology and a growing fleet of operational assets.
The Commercial Asset Manager leads the Commercial & Regulatory function within the Asset Management department, reporting to the Director of Asset Management. This is a foundational role building the commercial operations discipline for a rapidly scaling asset portfolio.
You own the commercial and contractual lifecycle of every BESS asset: P&L accountability, contract administration, warranty management, vendor relationships, and regulatory compliance. While the Site Operations Manager owns what the asset physically does, you own what it earns, what it costs, and what it is owed and collected.
Key responsibilities include:
- Own and manage P&L for assigned BESS portfolio: budgeting, monthly variance analysis, forecasting
- Serve as primary commercial owner for all OEM Long-Term Service Agreements and equipment warranties: obligations tracking, quarterly business reviews, SLA enforcement, credit recovery
- Initiate, file, and manage commercial warranty claims through recovery using validated data from Central Operations and engineering root-cause analysis
- Own all vendor contracts (NOC, CMMS, subcontractors, fire services, FDNY consultant) from signature through renewal or exit
- Approve all non-maintenance invoices (rent, property taxes, utilities, insurance, services) against contract terms
- Manage site-level agreements including leases and interconnection agreements
- Maintain commercial risk register tracking disputes, regulatory changes, and stakeholder risks
- Coordinate with Construction and Development on project handover: verify all contracts, warranties, permits, insurance, and obligations are complete before commercial takeover
- Build and lead the commercial team (portfolio, contracts, warranty, compliance) as the function scales
- Serve as primary contact for property owners; manage coordination with Con Edison and municipal entities
- Manage insurance renewals and claims; ensure administrative compliance with site permits (DOB, FDNY)
- Process third-party maintenance invoices and run PO/procurement workflow with delegation-of-authority discipline
- Produce monthly business reporting and maintain obligations tracking systems
- Coordinate across peer managers: Site Operations, Asset Integrity, and Central Operations
This role is ideal for a commercially disciplined operator who treats OEM warranties as assets, uses contracts as working tools, and maintains strong stakeholder relationships without conceding value.
