DEFCON AI is hiring a Cloud Systems Engineer for a senior individual contributor role with end-to-end ownership of cloud infrastructure and identity administration. This is a single-seat position covering AWS, Microsoft Azure, Microsoft 365, and Entra ID across both the infrastructure and identity planes.
Key responsibilities include:
Cloud Infrastructure & Virtual Systems: Administer AWS (EC2, RDS, S3, IAM, KMS, CloudTrail, VPCs, security groups) and Azure (VMs, virtual networks, storage, Key Vault, Azure Virtual Desktop, Site Recovery). Build and manage hardened VM images, implement high availability and disaster recovery, and support multi-account/multi-subscription governance structures.
Identity & Microsoft 365 Administration: Own the Microsoft 365 tenant end-to-end, including Entra ID, Exchange Online, SharePoint, Teams, and licensing. Manage the identity plane with Conditional Access policies, MFA enforcement, RBAC, privileged access, and hybrid identity. Run the full user lifecycle (provisioning, onboarding, offboarding, access reviews) and manage the endpoint fleet through Intune.
Infrastructure as Code & Automation: Design and maintain infrastructure using Terraform with modular design and remote state management. Automate operational workflows in PowerShell, Bash, and Python, including Microsoft Graph API automation. Integrate infrastructure provisioning into CI/CD pipelines and enforce policy-as-code guardrails.
Security, Compliance & Monitoring: Apply hardening baselines (CIS Benchmarks, DISA STIGs) across systems. Configure AWS CloudTrail, GuardDuty, Security Hub, and Microsoft Defender. Support SIEM integration and incident response. Maintain vulnerability management and support compliance with NIST SP 800-171, CMMC, FedRAMP, and SOC 2.
AI Platform Administration: Administer AI platforms including Anthropic Claude, ChatGPT, AWS Bedrock, and Microsoft 365 Copilot, managing seats, licensing, SSO, provisioning, data controls, and spend limits.
The role operates under defense-sector compliance obligations, making security hardening and audit-ready documentation integral to the position. Experience in regulated or compliance-driven environments (defense, healthcare, financial services) is strongly preferred.
