Salient builds AI agents for regulated financial services, automating loan servicing, compliance, collections, recovery, insurance claims, and disputes for banks and lenders. You will own Salient's cloud infrastructure footprint across AWS, GCP, and Render. This is a high-impact individual contributor role reporting directly to engineering, product, and company leadership. You will be responsible for the reliability, consistency, capacity, and cost of the platform that processes millions of real customer calls and transactions daily. Key responsibilities include: • Operating and standardizing infrastructure across AWS, GCP, and Render to one consistent standard • Implementing infrastructure as code using Terraform or equivalent, with reusable modules, consistent environments, and drift detection • Managing capacity for real-time voice and AI workloads, including forecasting, autoscaling, quotas, and headroom planning • Establishing cost attribution and monitoring through tagging, product/customer allocation, unit-cost metrics, dashboards, budgets, and anomaly alerts • Identifying and executing cloud cost reduction opportunities through rightsizing, commitments, cleanup, consolidation, and provider optimization • Ensuring platform reliability and observability, including incident response and post-mortem follow-through • Designing secure, auditable infrastructure that meets SOC 2 and customer security requirements The role is based in San Francisco with four days per week in-office collaboration. The team typically works around 60 hours per week, starting at 8:00 AM. This is a fast-paced environment where major launches move quickly and ownership is emphasized. REQUIREMENTS: • Demonstrated experience operating production infrastructure on AWS and/or GCP at meaningful scale, comfortable across multiple providers • Hands-on experience managing infrastructure as code and bringing unstructured, hand-built environments under control • Track record of delivering measurable cloud cost savings with deep understanding of pricing models, commitments, and data transfer costs • Experience planning capacity for spiky or latency-sensitive workloads and tuning autoscaling in production • Proven ability to build monitoring and alerting systems that catch problems early and lead incidents calmly • Strong design principles around least privilege, auditability, and safe change management • Preference for simple, consistent systems over complex ones; judgment about what not to build • Clear written and verbal communication skills to explain cost and reliability tradeoffs to engineers, finance, and leadership NICE TO HAVE: • Experience with real-time voice, telephony, WebRTC, or streaming systems • Experience running GPU or LLM inference workloads, or managing spend on hosted AI APIs • FinOps practice experience (e.g., cost allocation programs, FinOps certification) or background in regulated industries such as financial services
