Brodie League is a fast-growing adult recreational basketball community operating across 30+ locations with 50,000 athletes. As a City Launcher, you will expand Brodie's presence in Toronto by establishing a new market from the ground up.
This role is fundamentally about community building first, sales second, and growth marketing third. You will recruit a minimum of 24 founding captains in your first season, identify and negotiate a venue, fill the gym, and run the launch season. You then remain as the face of Brodie in your city—present at every game night, open runs, and community events, building genuine relationships with players, captains, families, and spectators on a first-name basis.
Key responsibilities include:
**Community & Network Building:** Leverage your existing network within the local basketball community to recruit captains and players. Walk into gyms and courts where you are already a familiar face. Build relationships with key influencers—coaches, trainers, gym staff, run organizers, barbers, and local business owners. Drive referrals so captains and players become your primary recruiting channel. Maintain visible, weekly presence in your neighbourhood as part of your normal life, not as outreach.
**Venue & Sales:** Identify and evaluate gyms in your neighbourhood, then negotiate and secure the right venue. Follow the company's sequence: soft close the venue, prove demand, then sign. Own the pipeline in the CRM (teams signed, fill rate, revenue) to make the market forecastable. Track performance weekly and escalate early when behind target.
**Growth & Marketing:** Own the local demand story from zero. Run your location's social media in the lead-up to launch, building following, anticipation, and a waitlist before opening night. Host open runs and live events that convert interest into signed teams. Leverage local distribution channels—trainers, shops, barbershops, run pages, photographers—and build mutually beneficial partnerships.
**Season Ownership & Territory Expansion:** Attend game nights and build community. Monitor league health (retention, team count, waitlist, feedback) and partner with Operations on execution while owning growth, revenue, and community. Help build the repeatable launch playbook for future Brodie cities. Earn the right to expand into adjacent cities as your territory grows.
You will report to the Sr. Director of Growth and work closely with leadership across operations, growth, brand, and people.
**Requirements:**
- Live in the neighbourhood being launched (or directly adjacent), not just the metro area
- Existing network in the local basketball community: coaches, trainers, gym staff, run organizers, tournament organizers, group-chat admins
- Currently active in the game: playing in a rec league now or last season, in a gym weekly (participant, not just a fan)
- Standing and credibility in your scene; when you recommend something, people move (reputation-based, not follower-count-based)
- Ability to name your first ten captains by name and credibility to get them on the phone
- Comfort building demand from zero (events, social, partnerships, word of mouth) with minimal budget
- Closing ability: can ask a facility owner for a time slot and a captain for a deposit without hesitation; can manage conversations from first touch through signature
- Comfort owning a number, working in a CRM, and adopting new tools quickly
- Availability on evenings and weekends (game nights run roughly 7pm to midnight)
- Willingness to travel across your territory as it expands
**Nice to Have:**
- Experience running a run, league, tournament, training group, or community program
- Experience running social media for a local brand, venue, team, or community
- Background in sports, events, hospitality, fitness, lifestyle, or entertainment
- Experience selling partnerships, sponsorships, memberships, or experiential products
- 3+ years in sales, partnerships, community management, or growth (useful but not a filter; the company prioritizes who you know and who listens to you over title history)
