Check is the inventor of embedded payroll, building the infrastructure and platform that enables payroll businesses to launch, grow, and thrive. The company is seeking its first dedicated Business Operations professional to join the Finance and Business Operations team, reporting to the CFO.
In this role, you will own high-priority, cross-functional initiatives end-to-end, from scoping and analysis through execution and measurement. You'll work directly with leaders across the organization to define and prioritize the most critical strategic questions facing the business. Key responsibilities include identifying operational bottlenecks and designing process improvements that drive efficiency and margin, developing and maintaining critical operating metrics and reporting cadences, and translating data into clear, actionable recommendations for senior stakeholders. You'll also apply AI tools and agents to analysis, reporting, and workflow design as a core part of your operating model.
The ideal candidate brings 6+ years of total work experience, including 2+ years in investment banking or consulting and 2+ years in a high-growth startup (Business Operations, Strategy & Ops, or Strategic Finance preferred). You should have strong financial modeling, analytical, and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex, ambiguous issues into structured frameworks and clear recommendations. Comfort operating with high autonomy and shifting priorities is essential, as is the ability to build relationships and drive alignment across functions and seniority levels. Familiarity with AI tools and agents to accelerate workflows is expected.
Bonus qualifications include experience in fintech, payments, or embedded/vertical SaaS, and SQL proficiency or equivalent analytical depth. The role is fully remote but distributed across the US, with optional hybrid or office-based arrangements available in New York City or San Francisco. The team gathers for an annual 3-day company retreat in spring and regular offsites and events throughout the year.
