Amca is building America's new industrial base by rapidly developing and manufacturing critical components and subsystems for aviation, military, and infrastructure platforms. The company operates seven factories nationwide and delivers avionics, hydraulic, and electrical components for platforms including the F-35, F-16, F/A-18, 737MAX, 787, A320neo, A321, Mk-48, and M1 Abrams.
The Build Engineering Specialist role owns the build procedures used to develop qualification hardware and iterate on initial builds to ensure highly reliable production-level builds at factories once product maturity is achieved. You will serve as the extreme owner for the build process of designed parts, spending days on hands-on R&D for new build methodologies and specifications while working closely with the design engineering team to ensure design for manufacturability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing build methodology from industry standards and conducting cutting-edge R&D to improve component manufacturing processes and unlock new methods
- Overseeing assembly and manufacturing procedures for both new and existing hardware
- Acting as the extreme owner of DFM (Design for Manufacturability) changes to part drawings, with empowerment to make changes as required to eliminate repeat failures
- Conducting development campaigns for new manufacturing methods and writing specifications on manufacturing best practices based on real-world data
- Trading off purchasing commercial build/manufacturing capabilities against designing and developing capabilities in-house
- Serving as the ultimate source of information for design engineers on how machines work and how to optimize parts for various manufacturing methods
- Ideating and implementing tooling to enable high-quality builds of Amca hardware
- Identifying, planning, and executing capital equipment, machine, and layout upgrades to meet changing needs
- Partnering with engineering and production teams to generate ideas, designs, and improvements for current and next-generation vehicles
- Assisting design engineers in guiding new designs from concepts to qualified, production-capable aerospace components
- Prototyping new components at the in-house R&D lab with intimate involvement in prototype development
Additional requirements include travel to vendors and other Amca sites as needed, and ability to work flexible hours and occasional weekend support. This position requires use of information subject to ITAR regulations; all applicants must be U.S. persons as defined by ITAR.
