Wise is a global fintech company enabling fast, low-cost international money movement. The newly established Banking Operations team bridges Payment Operations, Banking, Product, and global banking partners to manage partner relationships, reduce costs, and support business growth.
As Banking Operations Manager, you will be a senior individual contributor driving operational success and strategic resilience across Wise's global payment ecosystem. This is a ground-floor opportunity to build banking operations infrastructure from the ground up.
Key responsibilities:
**Strategic Partner Relationships**: Build and nurture collaborative relationships with global banking partners. Act as primary liaison managing Service Level Agreements (SLAs), driving partner accountability, and ensuring consistent high-quality service delivery.
**Operational Excellence & Incident Management**: Lead identification of significant operational improvement opportunities. Serve as core member of bank partner incident management team, conducting deep-dive post-mortems to drive long-term technical fixes and hold partners accountable.
**Risk & KRI Management**: Lead effort to identify, define, and monitor Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) for banking partners. Identify systemic risks—technical, financial, or operational—and implement mitigation strategies before customer or P&L impact.
**Data-Driven Insights**: Establish, define, and track operational KPIs and metrics for banking partner performance. Design reporting frameworks and generate strategic insights informing critical company decisions and banking strategy.
**Financial Transparency & Cost Recovery**: Lead fee reconciliation exercises and audit partner invoices against commercial contracts. Identify overbilling and hidden costs, providing data-backed evidence for Banking teams to negotiate cost savings.
**Internal Enablement**: Develop best practices, implement training programs, and share knowledge with Regional Payment Operations teams to enhance problem-solving, boost efficiency, and foster cross-functional collaboration.
Required qualifications: 5+ years in-depth knowledge of banking systems, payment operations, risk management, or partner management in fast-paced environments. Strong investigative problem-solving skills with ability to spot trends, form hypotheses, and build evidence-based cases. Excellent relationship-building and stakeholder management across external partners and internal teams (Banking, Product, Engineering, Treasury). Self-starter comfortable driving impact in ambiguous situations. Understanding of controls, documentation, and regulatory/risk standards.
Nice-to-haves: Fluency in Japanese or Spanish; formal contract negotiation experience; SQL or advanced data visualization skills.
