Axis is a fintech startup building a fully interoperable mobile wallet for Egypt that enables users to send and receive money across any mobile wallet, pay bills, purchase online with virtual Visa cards, and scan QR codes for in-person payments. The company also provides a digital banking platform for small businesses to manage payments to employees and suppliers.
We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to develop and maintain robust, scalable backend services powering our fintech applications. You will design and implement microservices following Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles, develop event-driven services and asynchronous workflows using technologies like Temporal, and create well-structured RESTful APIs and service-to-service integrations. You will collaborate across Product, Frontend, QA, and DevOps teams to deliver high-quality features, investigate and resolve issues in distributed production environments, and write clean, maintainable, testable code with comprehensive unit and integration tests.
Additional responsibilities include contributing to code reviews, monitoring application health and identifying performance issues, maintaining technical documentation, and participating in Agile ceremonies. You will help establish and improve engineering practices across the backend team.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 2–5 years of professional software engineering experience with strong backend development focus
- Proficiency in at least one of: Go, Java, JavaScript, or TypeScript
- Experience with backend frameworks such as Spring Boot, Node.js, Express.js, or NestJS
- Good understanding of microservices architecture and distributed application concepts
- Practical understanding of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) concepts
- Experience with event-driven architectures and asynchronous communication
- Experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases and data modeling
- Solid understanding of RESTful API design principles
- Experience writing unit and integration tests
- Hands-on debugging and troubleshooting of backend applications
- Basic understanding of application monitoring, logging, metrics, and distributed tracing
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and collaborative development practices
- Strong grasp of software engineering fundamentals, clean code, SOLID principles, and design patterns
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with Temporal or other workflow orchestration platforms
- Experience with Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar messaging technologies
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
- CI/CD practices
- Background in fintech, payments, banking, or high-availability systems
- Familiarity with distributed systems concepts (idempotency, retries, eventual consistency, fault tolerance)
