Clumio, a cloud-native data protection platform (part of Commvault), is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to join the Bengaluru team. You will be a key contributor to the backend systems powering the control and management plane of the platform, reporting to an Engineering Director.
The Clumio Backend team designs, builds, and operates core backend systems supporting cloud-native data protection. For customers, data protection is a foundational requirement driven by compliance, audit, and security mandates. Recovery performance, cost efficiency, strong governance, and reliable operation at scale are critical differentiators. The team develops shared services and well-defined interfaces that abstract complexity and enable consistent, reliable, and scalable interactions across the platform.
In this role, you will:
- Design, build, and operate backend services supporting core platform capabilities such as control planes, user-access management, and backup workflows.
- Take ownership of features or components, driving them from implementation through production operation, and continuously improve them based on real-world usage, operational signals, and customer feedback.
- Contribute to service design and API development, making sound technical trade-offs that balance correctness, scalability, cost, and maintainability under evolving requirements.
- Spend most of your time writing and reviewing production-quality code, diagnosing and resolving complex backend issues, and participating in on-call and operational responsibilities.
- Work closely with Product, quality assurance, customer-facing, and other teams to clarify requirements, ensure production readiness, and support smooth feature delivery.
- Through code quality, design contributions, and mentorship of junior engineers, help reinforce best practices and strengthen the reliability and scalability of the backend platform.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 4+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of features or components from implementation through production operation.
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as Go (preferred), Python, Java, or Rust.
- Experience building and operating non-trivial production systems, including diagnosing issues and improving implementations based on real-world behavior.
- Ability to translate loosely defined requirements into correct, maintainable technical solutions and make sound trade-offs under uncertainty.
- Highly collaborative and self-driven, with a strong sense of shared ownership, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional and geographically distributed teams, fostering open communication and alignment across time zones.
- Security and SaaS experience strongly preferred.
