LaunchDarkly is hiring Backend Engineers to design, build, and operate the services powering reliable software delivery for customers. The company's platform helps engineering organizations ship software and AI with speed, safety, and control through feature flags, experimentation, observability, and AI-powered capabilities. As a Backend Engineer, you will work on high-scale distributed systems, reliable data and event pipelines, SDKs, cloud infrastructure, and product experiences. LaunchDarkly's SDKs perform trillions of feature flag evaluations daily, giving your work direct connection to reliability and customer experience globally. Key responsibilities include: - Design, implement, test, and operate production services and APIs - Lead projects or meaningful components from problem definition through deployment and iteration - Make thoughtful tradeoffs across scalability, performance, reliability, security, maintainability, and delivery speed - Improve observability and operability of owned systems through metrics, logs, traces, alerting, and incident learnings - Collaborate with Product, Design, Support, Customer Success, and other engineering teams - Participate in technical design discussions and code reviews - Investigate production issues and turn operational lessons into lasting improvements - Contribute to a culture of inclusive collaboration and continuous improvement The company values humility, openness, curiosity, and care. Engineers work with experienced teammates and have the opportunity to own work from early design through production, learning from real customer impact and contributing to systems operating at meaningful scale. REQUIREMENTS: - 5+ years of experience building and operating production software in a professional environment, or equivalent demonstrable experience - Strong software engineering fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, testing, debugging, and API design - Experience with a backend language such as Go, Python, Rust, or equivalent (most teams use Go) - Experience designing or contributing to services that need to be reliable, observable, and maintainable as usage grows - Ability to explain technical decisions and tradeoffs clearly to both technical and non-technical partners - Collaborative approach and sense of ownership for work and downstream customer impact - Comfort learning unfamiliar systems and working through ambiguous problems
