Salary: USD 115,000 - 145,000 / annual
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, providing dedicated, secure networks to large enterprises, sovereign governments, and the US military. The company has five satellites on orbit with a backlog of over $1 billion in commercial contracts.
As an Avionics Integration Engineer, you will be responsible for developing, designing, and implementing tests and test systems for the vast majority of electronics on Astranis spacecraft. Your role is to prove that the suite of avionics, power, propulsion, and thermal designs work across all environments to guarantee success on orbit.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop and design automated hardware and software solutions to test and validate flight-worthy hardware
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex vehicle electrical systems issues
- Design PCBAs to interface with flight hardware
- Write object-oriented Python software to control test equipment, custom hardware, and satellites
- Implement new integration and test processes to improve efficiency without compromising quality
- Lead large, high-visibility test campaigns with multiple stakeholders, including scheduling, work distribution, risk mitigation, and execution
- Work closely with design teams to provide feedback through qualification and acceptance processes
- Contribute to system-level and unit-level issue mitigation efforts
- Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and hiring additional team members
Requirements:
- B.S. or M.S. in electrical or computer engineering, or equivalent technical degree
- 1+ years of experience or equivalent internship/project experience
- Strong electrical engineering fundamentals
- Experience using electrical test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.)
- Experience debugging systems and circuits with multiple layers of hardware and software integration
- Ability to work with and comprehend wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, and block diagrams
- Exposure to translating high-level requirements into clear design/test objectives
- Passion for hardware development in a fast-paced environment with hands-on design and development
Bonus qualifications:
- Experience in environmental testing (vibration, shock, thermal, burn-in, TVAC)
- Technical project management experience
- Altium Designer experience
- Python experience
- Experience designing and building electrical harnesses and connectors
- Test automation experience
