BillionToOne is seeking an Automation Service Engineer I/II to support laboratory operations and oncology diagnostics. You will be responsible for troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of laboratory equipment used in Next Generation Sequencing workflows. This role requires strong root cause analysis skills, application support expertise, and experience with equipment commonly used in molecular biology automation. Key responsibilities include providing service and support for automated processes and instrumentation, performing and coordinating maintenance on laboratory equipment, troubleshooting and conducting root cause analysis on lab instruments, and carrying out Installation, Operational, and Process Qualifications on new equipment. You will collaborate with Quality Control to ensure accurate documentation in accordance with regulatory requirements, coordinate with vendors on equipment issues, maintain equipment parts inventory and records, and prepare documentation for equipment operation and maintenance. The role also involves proposing and designing process improvement plans, representing equipment and automation teams in cross-functional meetings, and undertaking special projects as assigned. Required qualifications include a BS degree in a scientific discipline and 3+ years of experience operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, preferably high-throughput molecular biology equipment such as liquid handlers. You must demonstrate strong customer-focused service experience, ability to engage in constructive dialogue, proficiency in problem-solving with limited direction, attention to detail, solid understanding of statistical analyses relevant to automated lab processes, strong multi-tasking and prioritization abilities, and the ability to work effectively in a team. Experience in a CLIA or similar regulated environment is preferred. Nice-to-have qualifications include familiarity with molecular biology techniques and next generation sequencing, experience with data science/engineering in automated laboratory environments, and experience developing training programs. The position is onsite in Menlo Park, CA with a Monday-Friday or Tuesday-Saturday PM shift schedule.
