LabGenius Therapeutics is pioneering the discovery of next-generation therapeutic antibodies by combining human and machine intelligence. The company has developed EVA™, a state-of-the-art automated platform for closed-loop discovery of high-performing antibody designs using proprietary ML-grade datasets. LabGenius has raised over £55M from top-tier investors and operates a cutting-edge antibody engineering facility in London with a multidisciplinary team of 50+ scientists and engineers.
As an Automation Scientist, you will spearhead the design, development, and optimization of cutting-edge automation techniques for therapeutic antibody discovery. You'll work at the intersection of synthetic biology, automation, and machine learning, merging high-throughput screening with lab automation to accelerate the creation of life-enhancing treatments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Develop, run, and maintain automated workflows, optimizing them for speed, accuracy, and robustness in a lab environment
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with automation systems
- Support and train other scientists to run workflows on automated systems
- Work with liquid handling methodologies across multiple platforms, ensuring precision and reproducibility
- Design experiments to improve efficiency of molecular biology, protein production/purification, and screening processes
- Prepare assay-ready plates and run routine cell-based assays as needed
- Liaise with Software Engineering and Data Science teams to translate wet lab processes into automated data capture and processing pipelines
- Develop automation scripts and collaborate with Software Engineering to integrate them into platforms
- Maintain documentation including protocols and technical laboratory reports
- Interpret experimental results and recommend subsequent experiments or optimizations
- Stay current with advancements in lab automation and molecular biology
- Uphold high standards of accuracy and efficiency, including occasional weekend work
You will be hands-on with both automation and traditional wet lab practices, ensuring seamless interplay between machines and biological research.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field
- Proven track record of industry experience in assay development, screening, or related environment
- Proven ability in setting up, running, and maintaining common liquid handling systems (e.g., Beckman Coulter Biomek, Analytik Jena CyBio FeliX)
- Proven ability to automate and run biological processes, such as high-throughput screening of cell-based assays, nucleic acid or protein expression and purification
- Demonstrated experience operating and developing workflows on various automated liquid handling platforms within an R&D setting, including writing, testing, and executing automated protocols
- Proficiency in at least one general-purpose programming language to support technical problem-solving
- Willingness and capability to perform hands-on wet lab work such as generation of assay-ready plates
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills to handle multiple deliverables under demanding schedules
- High degree of initiative alongside effective analytical and problem-solving capabilities
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including ability to author thorough documentation
- Ability to collaborate productively as part of a cross-functional, multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility to occasionally adapt to non-standard or varying working hours when necessary
