Serval is an AI-native automation platform that helps enterprises replace manual processes with intelligent agents. Founded in early 2024 and backed by Sequoia Capital, Redpoint Ventures, and others, Serval is trusted by companies like Fox, Notion, Perplexity, Vercel, and Brex. As an Automation Engineer, you'll sit inside Serval's IT and internal ops team, operating as an internal product team of one. Your mission is to identify high-volume, high-friction operational work and build AI agents and workflows to handle it end-to-end. In the first phase, you'll automate existing playbooks by shadowing the help desk, identifying repeating requests and approval workflows, then deploying AI agents to resolve common employee requests without human intervention. You'll build systems for onboarding, offboarding, access provisioning, ticket triage, and maintain an agent-ready knowledge base. You'll track impact metrics including deflection rate, resolution time, hours saved, and satisfaction. In the second phase, you'll identify new automation opportunities across the company. You'll lead identity and access infrastructure initiatives including SSO consolidation, RBAC implementation, and SAML/SCIM provisioning for zero-touch onboarding/offboarding. You'll drive SaaS and device governance by rationalizing the app stack, enforcing SSO coverage, eliminating shadow IT, and standardizing device policies. You'll own day-to-day automation operations and support security and compliance execution including access reviews, device controls, and audit evidence gathering. You'll need 2+ years in automation engineering, IT operations, or related roles, with a Computer Science degree or equivalent practical experience. You should have working knowledge of identity management (Okta, SAML, SCIM), endpoint management (macOS, Kandji), and SaaS administration. You're a systems thinker who understands how SSO, RBAC, and provisioning automation connect. You're comfortable with ambiguity, can make sound judgment calls, balance competing priorities, and communicate clearly across the company. You're motivated by ownership and building systems, not just maintaining existing ones. Nice-to-have skills include scripting experience (Python, Bash, low-code tools), familiarity with zero-trust security models or just-in-time access tooling, startup or high-growth experience building automation from scratch, and exposure to compliance frameworks like SOC 2 and Vanta.
