Salary: CAD 109,100 - 136,400 / annual
Xero is seeking an Associate Engineer (Back End) to join their engineering team and help supercharge small businesses through modern technology. You will write clean, reliable code to deliver well-defined features and system improvements that directly align with customer needs. This role involves solving problems proactively, ensuring software systems remain robust, and taking ownership of meaningful product outcomes while continuously learning.
You will work closely with Product Owners, peers, and senior leaders in a collaborative environment that values open communication and thoughtful discussion. The team emphasizes knowledge sharing, pair programming, and constructive feedback to help everyone improve their craft. You will debug code, contribute to code reviews, and help refine engineering processes to drive collective success.
Initially, you will focus on developing high-quality software in C# and .NET Framework with guidance from senior engineers, designing and running testing activities to assess product quality and mitigate risks, debugging code and monitoring system health using logs, alerts, dashboards, and runbooks, and building desktop user interfaces using WPF, XAML, and relational SQL databases.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Solid understanding of C# and object-oriented programming principles
- Practical familiarity with .NET Framework, WPF, XAML, and SQL databases
- Confidence using Git for version control workflows and clear understanding of basic API concepts
- Eagerness to learn modern software delivery practices like pair programming, unit testing, and continuous improvement
- Strong drive to share ideas, seek feedback, and informally support team members as you grow
