Babylist Health is scaling into insurance-covered classes and lactation consulting, and seeks an experienced operations leader to build the operational and compliance foundation enabling safe, effective growth. This Associate Director role owns payer operations and clinical compliance—ensuring new payers launch smoothly, existing payer operations run without disruption, and all clinical licenses and credentials remain valid, current, and audit-ready. You will manage a high-performance team of two direct reports, serving as the first point of contact for audits, site inspections, and major payer transitions. You report directly to the GM of Babylist Health and work closely with billing/RCM, product, legal, and customer support functions, owning the operational compliance side of payer and clinical work. Key responsibilities include: - Own the complete onboarding process for new payers, ensuring smooth go-lives on schedule with full cross-functional collaboration - Maintain clean existing payer operations by catching and resolving friction before it becomes a pattern (EFT setup, payment schedules, sub-plan servicing, allowable amount tracking) - Own licensing and credentialing for clinical services, including IBCLC credentialing, ensuring every license is current and renewals stay ahead of deadlines - Lead response to audits, site inspections, and license renewals as the primary point of contact - Identify and implement compliance best practices across Babylist Health - Manage payer transitions end-to-end with clear planning and stakeholder communication - Build and maintain visibility into payer-level performance metrics and operational health - Program-manage day-to-day reporting and monitoring, plus the operational side of new launches (new DME types, new lines of business) - Develop and manage two direct reports, scaling the team with business growth - Partner cross-functionally with billing/RCM, legal, product, and payer contracting teams You are building the operational and compliance playbook for a scaling business, not maintaining someone else's framework. The scope is broad and real—licensing, credentialing, audits, payer transitions, and program management all sit with you, not split across multiple roles. This is a pivotal moment for determining whether growth actually happens; the business cannot scale into Medicaid and new clinical services without operations that hold up. Babylist is remote-first with team members across the U.S. and Canada. The company is AI-forward; every team uses AI daily as an expectation, not an experiment. The company comes together twice a year to build relationships. Babylist is the leading platform for expecting and new families, with more than 10 million annual shoppers, $750M in revenue (2025), and a mission to reshape the $235B kids and baby market. REQUIREMENTS: - Proven experience running payer operations at scale across multiple contract types or service lines, bringing new payers live on schedule, managing transitions, and keeping existing contracts in good standing - Deep knowledge of healthcare licensing and credentialing (state licensure, site inspections, payer-level credentialing); ability to own this function without executing it personally - Direct experience owning the operational relationship with payers, including being in the room when urgent issues arise - Multi-state regulatory compliance experience with ability to translate rule changes into process, documentation, and record-keeping that people follow - Experience managing both commercial and Medicaid payer work, including Medicaid expansion into new states - Ability to set direction and write requirements rather than waiting for others to define the roadmap - Strong people management skills with ability to coach and performance manage while staying close to the work - Ability to build process rather than follow it, bringing order to ambiguous, fast-changing operational work - Comfort operating across large, matrixed organizations, partnering daily with multiple functions without owning them - Natural inclination to use AI in work to move faster and improve output, with curiosity about emerging AI capabilities
