Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonised energy system, controlling hundreds of thousands of energy assets (vehicle charging, heating systems, home batteries) to shift energy usage to times when electricity is cheap and green. The company operates at scale in the UK flexibility markets and is backed by leading climate investors including Energize Capital and Accel. In this Analytics Engineer role, you will sit at the heart of Axle's operations, developing deep expertise in UK flexibility markets and owning critical daily and monthly operational processes. You'll work cross-functionally to run and optimise the most critical operations: asset management, trading across UK flexibility markets, and ensuring clients and end customers are paid for the flexibility they deliver. Key responsibilities include: - Owning operations for UK energy trading, including daily trading processes and settlement reviews - Debugging complex edge cases across trading, asset registration, and settlement processes - Identifying revenue and delivery risks and proactively mitigating them - Communicating insights and actions clearly to engineering and commercial teams - Building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and UK market regulators The role is centred on core analytics engineering skills: developing deep understanding of source data and building data pipelines that power analytics. While the title references analytics engineering, the company notes they don't use dbt because their data setup doesn't require a full ETL framework; instead, the focus is on SQL, Python, and analytical problem-solving. Axle operates with a deliberately flat structure and aims to keep pay equitable. The office is dog-friendly and located around Farringdon; hybrid working requires 2-3 days per week in-office to maximise collaboration. Requirements: - Strong SQL and Python skills for analysing data, investigating issues, and automating processes - Strong analytical skills (comfort with MW, kWh, and £ metrics) - Deep-seated motivation to combat climate change - Comfort operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment
