Axle Energy is building software infrastructure for the decarbonised energy system, controlling hundreds of thousands of energy assets (vehicle charging, heating systems, home batteries) to shift energy usage to times when electricity is cheap and green. The company is backed by leading investors including Energize Capital and Accel. In this Analytics Engineer role, you will sit at the heart of Axle's operations, developing a deep understanding of UK flexibility markets and owning critical daily and monthly operational processes. You'll work from the 'Axle control room' optimising the most critical operations: asset management, trading across UK flexibility markets, and ensuring clients and end customers are paid for the flexibility they deliver. Key responsibilities: - Own operations for UK energy trading, including daily trading processes and settlement reviews - Debug complex edge cases across trading, asset registration, and settlement processes - Identify risks to revenue and delivery, proactively mitigating them - Communicate insights and actions clearly to engineering and commercial teams - Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and UK market regulators - Develop data pipelines that power analytics (note: the role centres on core analytics engineering skills—building understanding of source data and pipelines—rather than dbt/full ETL frameworks) The company operates with a deliberately flat structure and aims to keep pay equitable, with a 1:1 median ratio between founder and team compensation. Hybrid working with 2–3 days per week in the dog-friendly office around Farringdon to maximise collaboration. Requirements: - Strong SQL and Python skills for analysing data, investigating issues, and automating processes - Strong analytical skills; comfort speaking in MW, kWh, and £ daily - Deep-seated motivation to combat climate change - Comfort operating in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment
