Nesto is a fintech company specializing in mortgage lending and commercial mortgage solutions. This role is part of the Trust & Security team and reports directly to the Head of Team, Trust & Security.
As an AML Compliance Analyst, you will administer and maintain the anti-money laundering and terrorist financing (AML/TF) compliance program for Nesto's commercial mortgage lending division (CMLS). You will be based in Toronto or Montreal and will be responsible for executing customer due diligence (KYC) processes, conducting complex beneficial ownership determinations for corporations, trusts, and partnerships, assessing and documenting customer risk, and conducting periodic customer reviews.
Key Responsibilities:
**Customer Due Diligence & KYC:**
- Perform comprehensive KYC onboarding reviews for commercial borrowers, guarantors, indemnitors, and related parties
- Conduct enhanced due diligence based on risk assessments
- Collect and validate corporate documentation including articles of incorporation, shareholder registers, trust deeds, and partnership agreements
- Identify and verify beneficial ownership in complex, multi-tiered, and multi-entity structures, documenting ownership charts with clear supporting evidence
- Perform periodic KYC update reviews for existing customers according to assigned risk level
- Update customer risk ratings in response to material changes or scheduled periodic reviews
**Risk Assessment:**
- Apply CMLS's AML risk assessment methodology at customer onboarding and throughout the relationship, including geographic risk, sector risk, PEP exposure, and adverse media
- Ensure all risk rating justifications are clearly documented and defensible during audits
**Sanctions & Screening:**
- Perform sanctions, PEP, and adverse media screening at onboarding and on an ongoing basis, documenting results and escalating appropriate cases to the Head of Team, Trust & Security
**AML Escalations & Reporting:**
- Manage AML escalations including preparation and submission of Suspicious Transaction Reports (STRs) directly to FINTRAC
- Maintain all compliance files with accuracy per PCMLTFA requirements
- Support preparation for FINTRAC audits and examinations
- Contribute to keeping the compliance program current with evolving regulatory requirements and guidance
The team operates with the philosophy that compliance should support the business, not hinder it. You will work collaboratively across Nesto Group to design smart, clear, practical, and easy-to-follow compliance processes. The role is ideal for someone motivated by impact who thrives in a dynamic environment and can take ownership of files and drive concrete change.
**Requirements:**
- Minimum 2–3 years of AML/compliance experience in financial services or lending (mortgage lending experience is a strong asset)
- Strong knowledge of Canadian AML/TF regulations (PCMLTFA, FINTRAC guidance) and beneficial ownership rules
- Experience with KYC processes, customer risk assessment, and beneficial ownership determination
- Proficiency with AML compliance systems and databases
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work with complex corporate structures
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; French is an asset
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Post-secondary education in compliance, law, finance, or related field preferred
