Lace Lithography is seeking an AMO (Atomic, Molecular, and Optical) Experimental Physicist or Engineer to join the team in Bergen, Norway. The company develops chip lithography technology for next-generation semiconductor manufacturing, founded in 2023 and backed by leading investors with offices in Bergen and Barcelona. In this role, you will be a key contributor to the development and optimization of Beam Conditioning systems. You will work alongside physicists, chemists, and developers to transition high-level R&D concepts into robust product architectures. The position requires a combination of deep theoretical understanding and hands-on experimental skill in laser cooling and atomic physics. Key Responsibilities: - Design, build, and optimize experimental setups involving laser cooling, atomic beams, and metastable atom sources - Perform iterative improvement of beam conditioning modules, focusing on flux enhancement, beam control, and long-term stability - Develop and implement advanced diagnostic systems, including spectroscopy and beam profilers - Collaborate with optomechanical and CAD engineers to improve atomic physics systems - Support deployment of Lace systems and provide technical training to team members - Contribute to technical documentation, design reviews, and supporting calculations The company offers competitive salary with equity participation, relocation support, gym allowance, weekly team lunches, monthly social events, quarterly development goals with personal learning budget, and annual team off-sites. REQUIREMENTS: - Education: PhD in Physics, Applied Physics, or related engineering field with focus on AMO physics; OR Master's in Physics with 5+ years of AMO experience - Proven experience with laser cooling and atom optics - Proficiency in working with and aligning complex optical systems related to atomic physics experiments - Knowledge of and hands-on experience with vacuum systems - Strong analytical skills for feasibility studies, modeling, and quick calculations - Experience with data acquisition and analysis tools (Python, MATLAB, or LabVIEW) - Valued but not required: lithography industry experience, cooling of He/Xe/Ne, Julia coding, optics modeling (Zemax)
