Mercury is a fintech platform providing banking, treasury, and financial workflow solutions for startups and technology companies. The company is seeking an AI Operations Lead to embed with teams across the organization and drive AI adoption at the last mile—turning promising AI solutions into measurable business improvements and sustainable workflow changes.
In this role, you will spend multi-month engagements partnering closely with specific functions (starting with Compliance) to deeply understand how teams work, identify true constraints, and build AI-powered solutions using Mercury's AI Engineering platform. You'll own the full lifecycle: defining success metrics with functional leaders, building and iterating workflows and automations, leading change management, and creating durable handoffs with documentation and trained owners.
You'll be the first to establish this practice across Mercury, meaning you'll help define what makes an embed successful, how long engagements should last, what effective handoffs require, and how to prioritize future focus areas. This is a hybrid role combining builder, operator, and change-agent responsibilities.
Key responsibilities include embedding with teams to identify AI opportunities, partnering with leaders to define measurable success criteria, building and shipping AI workflows using existing infrastructure, iterating until solutions produce real results, leading adoption and change management, and creating sustainable handoffs with clear documentation and accountable owners.
You should have 4–7 years of experience in management consulting, business operations, product operations, or similar roles where you owned business outcomes end-to-end. You need hands-on experience building with AI (agents, workflows, automations, internal tools—not just using AI products). You're comfortable defining your own KPIs and plans in ambiguity, then defending them to skeptical stakeholders. You're fluent with tooling (APIs, low-code/no-code builders, SQL) and equally fluent in plain language to sell solutions to teams who didn't ask for them.
