Scale's Global Public Sector team is building AI solutions to address critical challenges facing governments worldwide. The team creates custom AI applications impacting millions of citizens, generates high-quality training data for national LLMs, and provides upskilling and advisory services.
As an AI Applications Operations Lead, you will own the production lifecycle of full-stack AI applications deployed across international government agencies. You'll take full accountability for long-term performance and reliability, ensuring seamless integration between AI cores and all full-stack components (APIs, UI, infrastructure). Your responsibilities include:
- Owning production outcomes and system reliability for AI use cases in mission-critical government environments
- Overseeing end-to-end platform health and full-stack integrity across geographically dispersed deployments
- Building automated monitoring systems to detect model performance degradation and data drift
- Managing technical lifecycles within diverse international regulatory frameworks and security standards
- Leading incident response for production issues in sovereign AI environments, ensuring rapid resolution
- Translating technical performance metrics into clear insights for senior government officials
- Partnering with Engineering and ML teams to influence architecture decisions based on field learnings
You'll work with modern AI infrastructure including Kubernetes, vector databases, agentic development frameworks, and LLM observability tools. The role requires deep understanding of full-request lifecycle architecture, from frontend/API layers through backend and AI core.
Ideal candidates bring 6+ years in high-impact technical roles (SRE, FDE, or MLOps), preferably with public sector experience. You should have familiarity with international government security standards, sovereign AI deployment complexities, and the ability to communicate system performance issues to high-ranking officials. This is a founding-member opportunity to shape AI's role in the public sector.
