EliseAI is a venture-backed AI company (Series E, $250M raised) focused on improving housing and healthcare through agentic AI. The company integrates AI agents into existing workflows to reduce manual work, improve accessibility, and enhance user experience in essential services.
This role is a hands-on compliance auditing position within the housing vertical. You will serve as the in-house expert on affordable housing compliance, responsible for reviewing real tenant files across multiple federal programs (LIHTC Section 42, HUD Section 8 variants, USDA Rural Development) to ensure accuracy and validate automated compliance outputs.
Key responsibilities include:
- Auditing resident files for compliance with program rules and requirements
- Applying expert judgment to complex, ambiguous cases involving income/asset calculations, imputed income, deductions, and non-standard scenarios
- Pressure-testing automated compliance outputs to confirm calculations and determinations are accurate
- Identifying gaps where the system does not yet handle cases correctly and escalating for manual review
- Documenting findings and patterns to inform product and engineering priorities
- Building internal reference materials and compliance standards guides
- Developing test cases and supporting UAT before product releases
You will work closely with customers, product teams, and engineering to translate real-world compliance complexity into system improvements. This is a high-autonomy role with no micromanagement, requiring independent judgment at volume and the ability to communicate compliance reasoning clearly to non-experts.
Required qualifications: 3+ years of hands-on affordable housing compliance file review or auditing experience; deep practical knowledge of LIHTC, HUD Section 8, and ideally USDA Rural Development programs; background as a state housing finance agency auditor, operator-side compliance professional, or third-party reviewer; one or more relevant certifications (COS, SHCM, TCS, BOS, HCCP, NCP, or similar); strong written communication; comfort with ambiguous cases and high volume; experience in SaaS or ability to translate program rules into software logic; familiarity with TRACS/MAT submissions, MORs, or state monitoring reviews; and familiarity with AI/automation in compliance workflows.
