Salary: USD 150,000 - 175,000 / annual

Heron Power is a venture-backed startup building power electronics for grid modernization, focusing on converters (inverters and rectifiers) to connect large-scale renewables, storage, and loads. The company is led by seasoned veterans with a track record of shipping gigawatts of power conversion products. You will serve as Accounting Manager, reporting to the Controller, and own key accounting operations across the company's high-growth, mission-driven manufacturing business. This is a foundational role in building and scaling the accounting function from the ground up. Key responsibilities include: **Accounts Payable & Accruals**: Partner with business stakeholders on purchase order coding and account classifications. Oversee vendor invoice processing, approvals, and payment readiness. Establish and maintain monthly accrual processes, identify received-not-invoiced goods and services, and develop support for recurring and one-time accruals. **Payroll**: Review payroll changes, benefit deductions, 401(k) contributions, and other recurring inputs. Prepare journal entries and reconciliations. **Accounts Receivable & Revenue**: Support customer invoicing, cash application, and collection follow-up. Reconcile AR and revenue accounts; resolve billing, payment, and accounting discrepancies with cross-functional teams. **Fixed Assets**: Apply and maintain the company's fixed asset capitalization policy. Track construction-in-progress activity, coordinate with stakeholders on project status, and ensure timely capitalization. Maintain depreciation methods, useful lives, and fixed asset reconciliations. **General Ledger & Close**: Maintain chart of accounts and reporting dimensions. Execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis. **Systems & Automation**: Leverage finance systems and automation tools to enhance close efficiency, strengthen data quality, and improve the accuracy and reliability of financial reporting. You will work in a collaborative, dynamic environment driven by first-principles engineering and solving difficult problems. The role requires hands-on ownership, sound judgment, and the initiative to build scalable processes in a fast-moving manufacturing environment. **Requirements** Must-have: - Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field - 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including manager-level ownership in a high-growth or fast-changing environment - Strong U.S. GAAP understanding, with the ability to apply accounting principles thoughtfully to everyday accounting operations - Proven ability to design, document, and improve accounting processes and internal controls as transaction volume and business complexity increase - Strong systems orientation, including experience with ERP systems such as NetSuite and Microsoft Dynamics 365 - Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to build effective relationships across the organization and with external partners Nice-to-haves: - Prior experience as the first or early accounting hire at a Series A–C company - Experience supporting a manufacturing, hardware, or inventory-intensive business, including exposure to fixed assets, capitalization policies, and operational accounting workflows
