Lovable is seeking an Accounting Close Lead to own the month-end close and consolidation process across US, Swedish, and UK entities under US GAAP. This is a hands-on senior role reporting to the Accounting Controller, with no formal direct reports today but significant influence over the accounting team's direction and quality.
The core mission is to redesign the close from first principles, assuming AI agents and automation are available for routine work while keeping people for review, judgment, and critical decisions. You'll build a close designed for scale, with controls, review steps, and audit-ready evidence trails embedded from the start rather than retrofitted later. Over time, the goal is to move toward a continuous close rather than a month-end scramble.
Key responsibilities include:
- Owning the month-end close calendar and consolidation process, shortening it as automation takes over
- Partnering with the Controller on the continuous close vision: building or directing automated reconciliations, flux analysis, and journal entry workflows
- Designing controls and evidence trails into workflows so they're audit-ready without separate cleanup
- Supporting external audits (Big 4) and statutory audits in the UK and Sweden
- Maintaining close documentation and policies so they're clear and auditable
- Coordinating with Order-to-Cash, Financial Systems, Data, and FP&A teams to ensure GL, subledgers, and source systems reconcile
- Coaching accountants on the team and raising the bar on quality and ownership
You'll be working at Lovable, a rapidly growing AI software platform founded in November 2024 that has already reached 60 million projects built. The company is recognized as one of TIME's 100 Most Influential Companies and is on the Forbes AI 50 and CNBC Disruptor 50. Lovable is headquartered in Stockholm with growing teams in London, Boston, New York, and San Francisco. The culture emphasizes extreme ownership, high velocity, and low-ego collaboration.
Requirements:
- Must have personally run a month-end close and consolidation under US GAAP across multiple entities
- Must have been through Big 4 audits from the company side
- Must have a demonstrated drive to build an AI-first, continuous close with examples of close processes you've already automated or redesigned
- Must have deep respect for public-company rigor: controls, review evidence, documentation, and calendars that hold up under scrutiny; you see automation as a way to get more discipline with less effort, not a reason to skip it
- Must be operationally minded: you'd rather fix a broken process than write a memo about it
Nice to have:
- Experience with a company's journey from startup to IPO or public-company readiness, including SOX
- Big 4 audit background before moving in-house
- Experience with Swedish or UK statutory reporting and audits
- Hands-on experience with modern finance tooling and comfortable building your own automations
