Vensure Employer Solutions, the largest privately held HR technology and service organization in the US, is seeking a Senior Payroll Tax Specialist for their Phoenix, Arizona office. The company serves over 95,000 businesses and processes more than $135B in annual payroll, operating as a comprehensive HR/HCM technology, managed services, and global BPO provider.
In this role, you will be responsible for federal and state tax compliance and tax research within the PEO (Professional Employer Organization) industry. You will verify accuracy and timeliness of payroll tax functions to ensure full compliance with applicable laws, regulations, organizational policies, and procedures.
Key responsibilities include:
- Prepare and review tax-related documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with applicable guidelines and regulations
- Perform tax reconciliations and determine liability for accounts, divisions, or business units
- Assist in preparation and distribution of tax forms
- Answer client and internal questions and research discrepancies
- Research, interpret, and understand existing or revised tax codes, laws, and forms
- Modify work procedures to reflect changes in tax law or code
- Notify leadership of regulatory updates and propose/implement required changes
- Resolve escalated issues with clients or internal departments
You will need thorough knowledge of payroll tax and the regulatory environment, including federal, multi-state, and local tax regulations. You must be able to read, understand, and analyze complex regulatory payroll tax information, interpret complex data, and make determinations with minimal direction. Strong organizational skills, the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, and intermediate-to-advanced Excel proficiency are essential. You should work effectively both independently and collaboratively, with strong customer service skills.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum 3 years of multi-state, multi-jurisdiction, and high-volume payroll tax experience
- Minimum 1 year of recent Senior, Lead, or Supervisor experience
- Hands-on tax return processing experience required
- Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll, federal, state, and local wage laws
- PEO or related industry experience preferred
- MasterTax and Prism/HRP experience preferred
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification or Fundamentals of Payroll Certification (FPC) preferred
