You will join the executive team as a full partner in setting strategy. The exec team operates as a first team, working closely together to revise strategy as market conditions change. You'll bring experience and vision to sharpen strategic bets and decide with peers the most elegant path forward, then shape a strong engineering organization to deliver on those decisions.
Key responsibilities:
- Shape strategy by forming your own view of where product, technology, and market are heading, bringing insights to product leadership and the CEO, and challenging existing bets.
- Build alignment at the top by strengthening the exec team through close collaboration with product and CEO, working through disagreement until the team is truly committed to shared direction.
- Help the organization make sense of rapid change by clearly explaining engineering's direction repeatedly—to engineers, managers, the exec team, and the company. Remote-first communication happens largely in writing and presentations.
- Lead a high-performing team by directing strong managers, directors, and individual contributors toward the biggest opportunities, adjusting org structure, goals, and ways of working for continuous effectiveness.
- Lead from technical credibility by maintaining deep understanding of the technical landscape and the ergonomics of change underway in the AI era.

Qualifications and fit indicators:
- Led engineering through large-scale changes in direction, not just growth
- Shipped software with AI tools yourself within the last 12 months
- Special talent for collaboration and improving executive teams
- Interested in shaping strategy as much as executing it
- Experience at larger companies understanding what breaks at scale, combined with risk tolerance of early-stage startup founders
- Comfortable with uncertainty, rapid change, and shaping new bets toward product-market fit
- Led distributed teams with strong written and in-person communication
- Care about developer tools and have good taste in them (prior Honeycomb use is a bonus, not required)
- Alignment with Honeycomb's stated values around culture, technology choices, and inclusive practices
