Gamma is seeking a UI Engineer to build the visual experience of their product—pixel-perfect layouts, smooth animations, and responsive interactions that feel polished and intentional.
You'll own design system components ranging from foundational elements (buttons, inputs) to complex editor UI primitives. Your responsibilities include implementing polished micro-interactions and transitions, solving cross-browser compatibility challenges, and optimizing rendering performance to maintain 60fps animations. You'll partner closely with designers to translate high-fidelity mocks into production-ready, accessible components and build reusable, well-documented component libraries that scale across the product.
The role demands attention to detail—spacing, typography, hover states, loading states, error states, and edge cases—while maintaining sharp frontend performance. You'll balance when to polish versus when to iterate, with a focus on craft and user experience including thoughtful handling of loading states, error handling, and responsive behavior.
The team has a strong in-office culture and works in person 4–5 days per week in San Francisco, with flexibility to work from home when focus matters most.
REQUIREMENTS:
- 3–5+ years of frontend engineering experience
- Deep React expertise and mastery of CSS (flexbox, grid, animations, transforms, browser quirks)
- Sharp eye for detail and craft; ability to spot 1px misalignments, janky animations, inconsistent spacing
- Experience building complex, interactive UIs such as editors, design tools, or animation-heavy applications
- Performance optimization skills across React rendering, CSS performance, and animation frame rates
- Experience building reusable, accessible, well-documented component libraries
- Thoughtful approach to user experience including loading states, error handling, responsive behavior
- Nice to have: experience with animation libraries or visual editing tools
