Isar Aerospace, a New Space company building modern launch solutions for small and medium-sized satellites, is seeking a Turbopump Turbine Engineer to join its Turbomachinery team. You will lead end-to-end development of turbines for pump-fed liquid propellant rocket engines, taking designs from conceptual sizing and architecture trades through detailed aerodynamic and thermomechanical design, manufacturing, test, and qualification. Key responsibilities include: - Develop, maintain, and improve reduced-order design models for turbomachinery components for use in engine cycle analysis - Lead conceptual design and architecture trade-offs for turbomachinery systems, including shaft arrangements and seal/bearing selection - Develop and maintain detailed 3D design workflows for turbine components and perform aerodynamic analyses with the CFD team - Collaborate with the Engine Structures team on material selection for turbine rotors and stators operating at high temperature and pressure - Own the technical development roadmap for your hardware, including maturation activities, design reviews, risk assessments, manufacturing follow-up, and qualification planning - Plan, support, and evaluate component and integrated engine-level test campaigns, including instrumentation definition, test predictions, data review, and model validation - Work cross-functionally with Cycle, Turbomachinery, Valves, Feed Systems, Controls, Structures, Thermal, Manufacturing, and Test teams to deliver an integrated propulsion system You will take technical ownership of critical hardware and make sound engineering decisions with incomplete information. The role involves occasional travel for test and launch operations. Requirements: - MSc in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or comparable technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience - Several years in liquid rocket engine development with significant responsibility for turbine development and testing - Hands-on experience in design, analysis, development, or testing of pump-fed liquid propellant rocket engines - Excellent understanding of turbine aerodynamics, turbopump power balance and architecture, thermomechanical design, and material selection for rotating hardware - Working knowledge of seals, bearings, and centrifugal pump operation across different turbopump applications - Proficiency in Python, MATLAB, or comparable programming language; CAD and CFD software (preferably Siemens NX and StarCCM+) - Strong technical ownership, systems thinking, and ability to make sound engineering decisions with incomplete information - Fluent in English - Willingness to travel occasionally for test and launch operations Bonus skills: - Experience with transient cycle modeling (startup, shutdown, throttling, off-nominal conditions) - Experience taking an engine design from cycle definition and system-level trades into hardware and test - Experience analyzing engine control, operability, stability, or failure cases - Planning and coordinating multidisciplinary engine development or test campaigns - Experience correlating models against hot-fire test data
